Baylor University is a private Baptist Christian research university in Waco, Texas. Baylor was established in 1845 under the previous Congress of the Republic of Texas. Baylor is the longest continuous operating institution located in Texas and among the first universities located west of the Mississippi River in the United States. It is located on the Brazos River, close to the I-35 between the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex as well as Austin Baylor’s sprawling 1,000-acre (400-hectare) campus is among the biggest Baptist schools worldwide. Baylor History
In 1841, delegates to the meeting of the Union Baptist Association meeting accepted the idea from the Reverend William Milton Tryon and District Judge R.E.B. Baylor to create a Baptist University in Texas.
The Texas Baptist Education Society then demanded Congress of the Republic of Texas establish the first Baptist school during the autumn of 1844. Republic president Anson Jones approved the Act of Congress on Feb. 1st, 1845 creating Baylor University. The Reverend James Huckins, the first Baptist missionary in Texas Baylor’s very first fundraiser full-time and was the third founder and father of the institution.
Though these three men are recognized as the founders of Baylor University many others helped to get Baylor University to become a University created in Texas including the 15 Baylor’s founding Board of Trustees.
Following the University was established on the 1st of February in 1845, four towns offered to be the site of the university: Travis, Huntsville, Shannon’s Prairie, and Independence. Independence was selected and the preparatory courses for students started in May 1846. colleges being offered the following June.
Marjorie Scardino
Marjorie Scardino (born January 25 47, 1947 in Flagstaff, Arizona, U.S.) American-born British businesswoman who served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pearson PLC, a British media company Pearson PLC from 1997 to the year 2012.
She pursued studies in French as well as psychological studies at Baylor University, Waco, Texas (B.A. 1969) followed by a brief stint as an Associated Press editor, she finished her legal studies at The University of San Francisco (Juris Doctor in 1975). When she was director (1976-85) of the Savannah, Georgia, law firm, she along with their husband Albert Scardino, launched and ran a daily newspaper, The Georgia Gazette, that was a success in its editorial direction under the guidance of Albert. In terms of financials, however, The Georgia Gazette failed financially. Marjorie the paper’s publisher, said later that the newspaper’s business failures have taught her a lot more than any other success would have.
Marjorie Scardino joined the firm after which she became head through The New York offices of The Economist magazine The Economist magazine was half-owned by Pearson. In her time as the president (1985-93) of the Economist Newspaper Group, Inc. She more than increased its North American circulation. When she was appointed the chief executive officer of the Economist Group in 1993, she was transferred to the publication’s London headquarters and expanded into companies like finance research and analysis of the sector.

Dual degree programs
Baylor has four different programs available that allow medical students to obtain an additional degree in addition to that of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

Baylor College of Medicine is one of just 51 medical schools that are located in the United States to offer a Medical Scientist Training Program. The federally-sponsored and highly competitive program permits extremely well-qualified students to go on to study to earn a combination of an MD as well as a Ph.D. in medical science. The degree can be obtained within 7-9 years. The typical enrollment is 8-12 students in the program every year, and are eligible for free tuition as well as an annual stipend of $29,000 for the academic year.
